Platform
Engaging in Our Education
Due to the budget cuts, tens of thousands of students have been waitlisted for classes or are unable to get into their required courses, and departments have been cut disproportionate to student needs. On these issues, the Academic Senate has failed to respond to student needs. As AAVP, I will improve the structure for student representation in the Academic Senate to ensure that the student body is informed of important policies and involved in the decision-making process. To uphold the academic rigor of UC Berkeley, we must empower students to shape our own education.
From College to Career
The lack of structured programs to help students secure internships, research positions and volunteer experiences has hit us especially hard during the current economic crisis. As Senator, I have begun to develop the International Summer Program with the Career Center, to provide direct access to professional opportunities, by connecting with alumni, and partner institutions in the US and abroad. As AAVP, I will ensure that this program is implemented and strive to implement more effective programming for students to prepare for successful and fulfilling careers.
Strengthening Undergraduate and Graduate Relations
Graduate students are an integral part of the UC Berkeley community and play a crucial role in undergraduate education and the research excellence of our university. This year, graduate students have faced tremendous hardship due to reduced GSI positions, increases in professional fees, and the introduction of normative time. As AAVP, I will work with the Graduate Assembly to advocate for transparent GSI guidelines and financial aid for professional degree students.
