Values

Equal Representation

The ASUC can effectively serve all students only if it devotes itself to learning and understanding all voices on campus. We will represent students who are underrepresented in the ASUC by paying attention to all voices and making sure that they have the opportunity to be heard before decisions are made.

Progression

We seek to breathe life into Berkeley’s legacy of effecting change and being at the forefront of national and international politics. We will push a progressive agenda, organizing students to rally and fight for civil rights, equality, and other pressing issues on both a national and local level in ways that are effective and productive, not self-aggrandizing or trivial.

Fighting the ‘isms

We are dedicated to fighting any form of institutional and stereotypical hatred, including but not limited to racism, sexism, and homophobia.

Professionalism

Treating the ASUC more like a fiefdom than a representative government, many ASUC officials have wasted time, energy, and resources by allowing their personal prejudices to determine the way they behave in the ASUC, especially in the way they spend student money. We will maintain the highest standards of professionalism, maximizing our efficiency and effectiveness to effect change by ensuring that all students have equal access to ASUC resources.

Fairness and Equality

If ASUC officials are allowed to act and behave unchecked, they are more likely to abuse their power for corrupt purposes. We will institutionalize systems of fairness and equality in the ASUC, and will fight for similar measures at the University level. Decisions made by ASUC and University officials should be transparent and subject to student review. After all, it’s our money, our ASUC, and our University.

Open-Mindedness

By recognizing that we all have preconceived prejudices and opinions, we can make sure that they do not get in the way of effective and cooperative work in the ASUC. We accept that we don’t know everything about all people or all issues, and we will seek to fully understand each person or issue that we encounter to avoid acting on assumptions with limited information.
