International Professional Development
The current situation of California makes it difficult for international students to receive internships. I believe that Berkeley international students are highly qualified with international experiences and foreign language skills. I will fight for better support so that international students have more accessibility to internships. By collaborating with the Career Center and the network of established international organizations and businesses, I will work to create programs that can facilitate the internship application process.
Better Orientation and Accessibility to Peer Advising
The Cal orientation has been unhelpful, especially to international students and incoming freshman. At time we have no idea about choosing dorms, courses, and majors. Although there are advisors, they are often times inaccessible due to distance and language barriers. As a senator, I will advocate for a better orientation for the incoming freshman and international students that can adequately meet their needs. Finally, I will solve this problem with first hand by collaborating with the Office of Student Life while never forgetting the student input.
Provide Opportunity for Native Speakers to Teach Language Courses
Due to the current budget cuts, the number of language courses in Berkeley has decreased largely. I believe if we allow undergraduate native speakers as partial instructors of language courses or assist with professors/ lecturers, we can not only lower costs necessary to fund languages courses, but also maintain our diverse choice of language courses. By fostering these opportunities for students, we can create a better student-teacher dynamic. I will work closely with the Academic Senate to employ this solution of bringing back education to the students.
