Platform
Promoting a bike-safe and bike-friendly campus
There is a lack of communication between bicyclists, pedestrians and UCPD, resulting in reduced bike safety and rising discontent regarding bike policy. Despite efforts to lower fines and increase students’ awareness of the dismount zone, we must accommodate the recent 3% increase in student bicycling on campus and create a safer campus without criminalizing students unnecessarily. I will work with students, UCPD, the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability, and UC Parking and Transportation Department to promote secure bicycle parking, registration, and increased awareness of bicycle safety on campus.
Revitalizing student spaces
Student spaces are in jeopardy: Lower Sproul Redevelopment puts spaces in limbo, and the East Asian library nearly faced a 35% reduction in hours. The student voice needs to be represented in decisions of allocation. These spaces are vital to our educational/ extracurricular enrichment. I will work to renew the Memorandum of Understanding to secure the Multicultural Community Center and will coordinate with the Academic Senate and the AAVP Policy Department to advocate for library hours that are consistent with our needs.
Preserving student services
Student services that are crucial to our education are in jeopardy, especially in the wake of cuts made by Operational Excellence. OE’s cuts will be detrimental to student services, such as the resources in the Cesar Chavez Student Center and Student Learning Center. Sustained funding is required to ensure these key services. I will advocate for meetings between students, staff, the Vice Chancellor of Equity and Inclusion, and the chairs of OE to keep the University accountable to these students and secure the funding to preserve services.
