Platform

Affordability for All

Over the past 10 years, student fees have more than doubled. In this economy, having an affordable education is more important then ever. As EAVP, I will work with the city of Berkeley to ensure affordable quality housing for students. On the state level, I will work to mobilize students to pass the CA College Affordability Act to ensure Cal is accessible to all students regardless of income. Lastly, on the national level I will work to increase Pell Grant and work study funds, as well as hold our representatives accountable for prioritizing higher education.

Campus and Residential Safety

Because of recent assaults on and around campus, the ASUC must do everything it can to ensure a safe campus. As EAVP I will work with other ASUC and university officials to provide self-defense workshops for students. As EAVP, I will work to make sure budget cuts do not affect essential safety services like the Night Shuttle System and Bear Walk. I will continue to promote night walk throughs to keep berkeley streets well-lit at night. I will ensure that students’ voices are heard in city commissions so that safety for everyone can continue to be prioritized by the City of Berkeley.

Student Input and Access to the ASUC

Building student power is not a top-down endeavor. The EAVP office needs to listen to the needs of students to shape its agenda. Next year, I will create campus-wide community forums for students to speak their mind about issues they believe the external office should work on and create a space for leadership development.
