What is CalSERVE?
Founded in 1984 around the successful movement to divest UC funds from the South African apartheid, Cal Students for Equal Rights and a Valid Education is a coalition of progressive students and student organizations that continues to make change on campus and in the world. In addition to pressuring the UC administration to divest from apartheid in South Africa, CalSERVE was successful in electing Pedro Noguera, now a distinguished professor of education at NYU, as the first black President of the ASUC from 1984-1986.
From the beginning, CalSERVE has fought for positive change both on and off campus. We fight for access, representation, and social, environmental, and racial justice and we utilize the resources of the ASUC and progressive values of the student body to make these things possible.

How does voting work and when does voting begin and end?
ASUC elections are Single Transferable Vote, meaning that you you rank the candidates you want, with 1 being the highest vote possible, with 2 going to your second choice, and so on. For the Executive office positions, you may vote for up to the number of candidates running for that office. For the Senate, you may vote for up to 20 candidates only. You do NOT have to vote for, or rank, every candidate, nor are you required to vote for each office/proposition. We ask CalSERVE supporters to give their #1 vote to CalSERVE candidates.
Voting begins April 6th at 9:00 AM and ends April 8th at 11:59 PM. You can vote online at election.asuc.org
What about the B.E.A.R.S. Initiative?
The CalSERVE coalition is not endorsing a particular vote for the B.E.A.R.S. initiative, an initiative that will increase the student activity fee in order to pay for Lower Sproul Redevelopment. CalSERVE feels that it is important for voters to inform themselves and form their own opinions on the initiative. You can get more information at lowersproul.berkeley.edu.
