Platform
Promoting the Student Voice
Students have been excluded from decision-making processes that directly affect our education and overall experience at Cal. As President, I will prioritize student input at all levels and make the ASUC a resource and a support system for the student movement to protect public education. To ensure that administrators listen to student needs, I will post a calendar of my meetings with campus administrators on ASUC website as well as updates after every meeting with a summary of what was discussed and what promises were made.
Creating an Efficient and Student-Centered Budget
The ASUC’s poor finances hinder its ability to provide resources to student groups. As President, I will establish a financial auditing system to pinpoint “miscellaneous” ASUC Auxiliary expenses that have been absorbing student money. Bold decisions must be made about parts of the ASUC budget that consistently lose student money, like the Cal Lodge which loses $100,000 a year, and is rarely utilized by student groups. I will make the hard but necessary choices to better allocate funds to student groups and scholarships in these hard economic times.
Pursuing Social and Environmental Responsibility
The ASUC, with regard to its commercial activities, has been known to make profit-oriented decisions that disregard social and environmental accountability. As President, I will make decisions that are socially conscious and environmentally sustainable and that will ensure the holistic viability of the ASUC. Additionally, as President, I will be an advocate for the entire student body including students of color, undocumented students and low and middle-income students. I will push to make a campus that’s accessible, diverse and a safe place for all.
