Affordability: Student Fees & Housing

Student fees have increased 93% in the last 7 years. At the same time, the cost of living in Berkeley has increased dramatically. Berkeley is a public university. Students should not pay private school tuition. As a student community, we will continue to have a strong presence at Regents meetings, in Sacramento, and in Washington D.C. to create solutions to combat the affordability crisis. As EAVP, I will work with the city of Berkeley and the University to expand affordable housing options for students.

Representation On All Levels

UC Berkeley students have the power to shape policies on a local, statewide and national level. Our voices must be represented in state and national coalitions to ensure that we are heard on all levels. As EAVP, I will involve more Cal students, not just ASUC officials, in state and national conferences. I will fight for more student voices on local Berkeley City
Commissions.

2008: Our Generation’s Defining Election

Young people will determine the outcome of this year’s critical local, state, and national elections. We need an EAVP who has the experience of empowering students and mobilizing students to vote. As EAVP, I will expand voter registration and increase get-out-the-vote campaigns, including working with the residence halls to improve voter education and ensuring high voter turnout for this year’s elections.
