More Rented Books
The recent fee increases and rising school costs impact all students concerned with rising textbook fees. Expanding the availability of textbooks in the Cal Bookstore Rental Program saves students’ a substantial amount of money and generates more resources for your student organizations by investing in your ASUC Student Store. I commit to working with the ASUC Bookstore in order to improve the current system set to allow faculty to submit early book recommendations which potentially lead to more available textbooks for rent.
Bridging the Gap
The ASUC has many resources that can be more adequately channeled into programs and organizations that are actively outreaching into the outside community to uplift and empower. Marginalized communities have been largely excluded from attaining a pathway into college, and efforts to close this gap must be supplemented in order to help address the low rates of diversity at Cal. I will advocate for a larger allocation of funds towards K-12 outreaching efforts that promote higher education and community solidarity.
Strengthen the Alumni Base
The current economic hardship challenges graduating students with issues pertinent to job search in all career industries, and our current alumni networks provide minimal support for students struggling to secure employment opportunities post-graduation. I will improve the transition for undergraduates searching for career opportunities and external support by strengthening and streamlining the network between alumni and current students.
