Platform

Empowering Women

My position on women’s issues is two-pronged: safety and empowerment. It’s not acceptable for any students, particularly women, to fear disproportionately for their safety depending on their appearance or gender. One of my priorities is bringing self defense trainings to campus as a means of increasing students’ self-confidence and security. As a senator, I will work to ensure that the ASUC begins to offer more awareness about assault and sponsor more programming like these trainings, specifically designed for women and queer students.

Civic Engagement

Although the UC Berkeley Vote Coalition registered a record number of students to vote, I will work to eliminate the barriers to registration that remain, including the limits on voter registration in the dorms. To ensure all Cal students and organizations can lobby the State Legislature and hold political events, I believe in simplifying the prohibitive insurance procedures for events. Berkeley has a history of activism and participation that far surpasses voting.

Civil Rights and Allies

The passage of Proposition 8 sent organizations within the queer community reeling. Now, with the repeal and Supreme Court decisions pending, students should know that their equal rights are being advocated for on and off campus. The ASUC needs senators to work for more queer and allied resources and towards ensuring all students feel safe on campus from hate speech and crimes. The first step having strong queer representation in the ASUC, is voting for me for ASUC Senator.
