Career building: network between students and alumni/graduate students
In building students who seek to leave their mark on the world, UC Berkeley must provide students with the advising resources that will increase their networks and ability to build career experience. By bridging the networks, students will be advised by past Berkeley graduates who have navigated Berkeley and have made their goals. Advising from and networks with Cal alumni who work in the desired fields of current students will prove an invaluable asset for pre-professional, transfer, and all students seeking a career upon graduation.
Preserve space: Sustainability and Celebration of Culture
During the execution of the B.E.A.R.S. Initiative and Lower Sproul Redevelopment, student spaces in Eshelman Hall will be displaced and relocated in the upheaval and renovation of Lower Sproul. During this time, it is crucial that students are able to exist at peace in a culturally – sensitive space in order to sustain the place of culture on our campus, while maintaining spaces of organizing. We must not risk the elimination of cultural celebration and student activism from our campus due to inadequate spaces.
Ensuring Scholarships
Bolster financial resources for domestic and international students in order to maintain diversity on our campus in the face of the 2012 Admissions Policy. As the 2012 Admissions Policy is predicted to result in an 18% decline in Latino freshmen, a 13% decline in black students, and a 15% decline in first-generations students, increased financial assistance is needed to combat the effects of the policy. I will strengthen the financial resources for underfunded, yet qualified students, we can maintain the representation of diverse cultural student groups on campus.
