Platform

Building a Cohesive Queer Voice

It has been a long time since our LGBTQIA community has rallied around a single cause. I would like to build a coalition of our different queer communities by bringing Cal’s powerful LGBTQIA community together around encompassing issues. Institutionalizing the coalition within the ASUC would secure funding and space. We can have meaningful dialogue, such as the lack of Queer People of Color within the movement. Only after these dialogues have begun can we have conversations of representation.

Civic Engagement

Due to budget cuts, it is important that we speak out. While the UC, CSU, community college systems make up a large part of the California population, our voices remain unheard. Taking part in the political process is an engaged way to ensure that funding to education doesn’t decrease. I will set up letter-writing/ phone-banking stations on Sproul to ensure that we can contact our officials. I will also push to allow student groups to go to dorms to register voters, ensuring that we elect the best representation.

Progressive Values

In the ASUC, progressive values have to be fought for. I will make an effort that the ASUC, specifically the executive offices, will take progressive stance on issues. I will fight against policies such as the 2012 admissions policy, budget cuts that are disproportionately directed towards Gender Women Studies, African American Studies, and Ethnic Studies. I will push for the inclusion of communities in meetings with administrators, to ensure student voice. I will advocate for the funding of progressive student groups.
